Datastrip offers a series of handheld biometric identification terminals designed to take identity verification off the desktop and onto the road. Weighing in at just two pounds, the company's DSVII reader/computers enable law enforcement personnel to capture and match suspects' fingerprints in the field utilizing the built-in 500 dpi fingerprint sensor. The units can utilize any of the primary AFIS fingerprint algorithms, including Cogent, NEC and Motorola's Printrak, Identix and Bioscrypt. They can transmit directly to the jurisdiction's server via GSM or GPRS, or locally to a patrol car via 802.11 or hardwire USB, serial or Ethernet connection. Alternate uses include e-citations (by verifying a machine-readable driver's license with the unit's built-in card reader and then automatically populating the demographics of an e-citation form), corrections (for inmate headcounts and visitor identification) and other law enforcement applications.
